# General information
## Alternative use of the application
If you are unable to use a mouse, use the "tab" key to go through the buttons on the application. You can also use the arrow keys to move through the screen interface. On Windows you can use "Enter" to press a button. On Mac you must use the space bar. A button will appear in a darker color like this when selected:
Throughout the application you can find tooltips at different spots, giving you tips on how to properly use the application. These can be found on some text fields, password fields, and password strength bars. To access the tooltips, hover your cursor over the component for some seconds. Thereafter you will see tooltips like this:
Make sure you are connected to the internet and a database. If you lose connection to either of these during runtime, it is recommended that you regain your connection and then you restart the application. Letting the application be on standby for longer periods can also disconnect it from the database, in this case restart the application.
# Getting started
## Opening the application
When opening application as shown in the installation manual, you will see this "Log in" screen:
To return to the "Log in" screen, press the "Log in" button at the bottom or press the home icon at the top right of the screen. When creating a user, start writing in your username and password. The password must contain at least 8 characters. When you start typing in your password, a password strength bar will appear. To achieve the maximum strength, include a capital letter, a number and at least 12 characters. Thereafter, you must confirm your password. Do it by reentering your password in the field underneath "Confirm password:". Be sure to remember the password, as it currently cannot be changed, or retrieved if lost. Press the "Sign up" button to create a user.
In this case, make sure you are connected to the internet, and have the correct username, password, and URL to the database in the config.properties file. Restart the program thereafter.
If your password and the confirmation of the password does not match, then you will see this message:
To log in, enter your username and password, and press the "Log in" button. If you do not have a user, see the "Creating an account" section on page 4.
# Using the application
When you have logged in you will see the main menu:
To upload a photo, enter the title of the photo were it says "Title here…". Now you can choose between uploading an image from the internet or from your computer. To upload from the internet, enter an image URL address in this format: _https://example.com/image.jpg_
Then press the button saying, "Upload image".
To upload from your computer, press the button saying, "Select local image". A file explorer will now pop up. Choose a photo, and press "Open":
This is because the program could not read the image URL. Make sure the image URL address is correct and try again.
## View albums
To get to your albums press the button saying "Albums" in the main menu. When running the application for the first time with a newly created user, the section will not contain any albums:
Notice that the button saying "Delete selected albums" is now enabled, since there are albums that can be deleted.
## Creating an album
Go to your albums from the main menu, by pressing the "Albums" button in the main menu. To create a new album, click "New Album". A small window pops up:
Select an album you wish to add the photos to from the dropdown list. Afterwards, click "Add to album" button. If the dropdown list is blank, it means you have no albums.
To view an album, simply press on the title of the album. All pictures inside the album will then be displayed. If no pictures have been added to the album, an empty album with a message will be displayed (see picture below). In this example we use an empty album named "Summer2018":
Notice that the "Generate PDF from album" and "Remove selected photos" buttons have been disabled, since the album does not contain any pictures.
If the album does contain pictures, it will appear like this:
Notice how the "Generate PDF from album" and "Remove selected photos" buttons are now enabled, since the album contains pictures.

Choose a directory for the PDF file to be saved to, and press "Open". You will be taken back to the previous window, where the file location will now be filled in the text field. Press the button saying "Download", and the PDF file will be saved in the chosen directory. It will also be automatically opened for you to see:

After selecting the wished images, press the "Remove selected photos" button.
## Delete album
Navigate to the albums via the "Albums" button from the main menu. There are two ways to delete albums. The first is by pressing the checkboxes belonging to the albums to be removed, then press the "Delete selected albums" button:
If there are no photos here, you can press the "Add photo" button, to be redirected to the "Upload" screen, where you can upload photos. For more information about this read "Upload photo" section on page 9.
By using the field that says "Search for image…" you can either type in the title of the picture or the tags assigned to it, but not both at the same time! When searching by using the title it will look like this:
When searching using multiple tags, it is important to remember to use comma as separation between each tag. The picture will also not show up if you have not completed the name of each tag.
To delete photos, go to your photos by pressing the "Photo" button from the main menu. Then select the photos you want to delete by clicking on their checkboxes or select all by selecting the "Select all" checkbox. When finished selecting photos, press the "Delete selected photos" button. A message "Deleted successfully" should show up.
The "Kart" button in Norwegian or "Map" in English, shows the map as seen on the picture above. Pressing the "Hybrid" button displays the hybrid map of the world:
Press the button with the plus sign to zoom in on the map, and the one with the minus sign to zoom out of the map. Navigate through the map by holding the main button on your cursor and dragging on the map.
If you are unable to use a mouse, you can tab through the window, and use functions such as zooming, and selecting the type of map. When you have tabbed to the map, it is possible to navigate around the map using the arrow keys.
## View image metadata and tags
Whenever a thumbnail of a picture appears, it can be pressed to view the picture's metadata and tags. These thumbnails are found in your picture collection, on the map, and in your albums, if they contain pictures. When pressing the thumbnail, a pop up window like this will appear:
Here lies all the registered metadata and tags of the image. To close the pop-up window, use the application exit button, the "Close" button at the bottom, or press outside the window. For people unable to use a mouse, press the escape key ("esc") to exit the application.
## Add and delete tags
When viewing the metadata and tags of an image, as seen above, it is also possible to add and delete tags. To delete a tag, press the "x" mark on the tag. To add a new tag, write the name of the tag in the text field under "Add a tag to picture", and press the "Add tag" button. The application does not allow duplicate tags. Therefore, an error message will appear if the name of an already existing tag is entered:
To log out of the application press the "Log out" button from the main menu, and the application will switch to the "Log in" screen.
## Exiting the application
You can exit the application by directly pressing the exit button for the application. If you exit the application while logged in, the system will automatically log you out. To exit, press the application exit button, or use the escape key. This will bring up this pop-up window:
Enter the password to the user account. If wrong password is entered, this message will pop up: _"Password does not match your current password"._
Select "Yes", and the user account will be deleted, at the same time you will be redirected to the "Log in" screen. A message confirming the deletion of the account will appear:
